Born Benjamin Pressley in 1974 and raised in Thomasville, North Carolina, BENJI MARTIN is a man of many talents: singer, musician, songwriter, artist, and photographer.
Since 2003, Benji has been honing his musical talents in front of audiences in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina. He credits Sir Paul McCartney and the late John Lennon as his inspiration as a songwriter, and his soulful tenor/countertenor voice and guitar work has won him comparisons to Neil Young, the Bee Gees, and Staind.
Benji’s performance career began in elementary school where he started to sing and dance in assemblies and PTA meetings. He got his first guitar at age 10 and began writing songs more than a decade later.
Benji has appeared on Talent Search TV, a local talent show, and has performed at TimFest in 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2014. He as also opened for acts like Megan Jean at open mic nights at the Garage in Winston-Salem. Other artists with whom Benji has worked include Country Dan Collins and the Fun-o-meters, White Light, the Solcet Fre Project’s William Trice, and Vel Indica’s Patrick Ferguson.
Not only has Benji been able to express his feelings though his strengths as a singer/songwriter, he has also shared his view of the world as he sees it via his photography, which is displayed at benjispix.wordpress.com. He also blogs about current music news on his blog at benjismusicblog.wordpress.com.
